Paperworld 2008 will see the launch of AF Internationals first extensive range of environmentally-friendly re-fill packs for existing and popular product ranges such as Phone-Clene, PC-Clene, Headset-Clene and Screen-Clene. This brand new range has been developed to encourage end-users to make more environmentally aware purchasing choices and save on packaging waste. All of AF’s cleaning wipes are made from recycled pulp which is processed without the use of chemicals, before being packaged in refillable tubs made from recycled (and recyclable) plastic.
Marketing manager Karen Harrison comments; “We are a society that now cares about the environment around us and AF International recognises this. At AF we are constantly investigating ways to improve the environmental performance of our products as well as operating the business in a more ecologically sound manner. As an ethical corporation we believe this to be our social responsibility. We feel that Paperworld is the ideal place to launch our initiatives and our new environmentally friendly re-fill packs, as it is such a key show for the industry – an industry which can lead the way in environmental policies”.
Another prime example of AF’s green credentials being showcased at Paperworld 2008 is the Multi Screen Clene. It is one of the most environmentally-friendly screen-cleaning products on the market today as it is free of harmful gases. However this does not mean performance has been compromised, as the pump-action valve generates pressure which then pushes the cleaning fluid out – just like an aerosol, but without the CFCs. The pump-action bottle itself can be refilled to save on packaging waste.
AF progressive environmental policy is not only demonstrated by the products it manufacturers; it is also an integral part of the company’s business operations. Acting in the spirit of the externally audited ISO 14001 standard, AF has extended its environmental policy to all departments of the company, from production to marketing. One of the most striking results is the company’s reduction of their carbon footprint as shipping is the preferred method of transport of products from the manufacturing site in China to the UK. Although shipping takes twelve weeks to arrive from China it is the most efficient and ecologically sound method of transport.
AF is headquartered in Derbyshire, just inside the National Forest. Showing commitment to taking care of the local environment, AF is supporting the forest to help towards reducing carbon dioxide in Britain’s atmosphere. Planting and protecting trees and shrubs helps remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as plants break down the gas during photosynthesis.
Ron Jakeman, MD of AF International, says “We will be planting fifty trees in the National Forest in March 2008 and hope to continue to support this initiative well into the future. As cities expand into green belt land it is important that our forests are protected and expand, and we at AF are proud to be able to contribute to the sustaining of such an important environmental site”.
